Abstract

Climate change poses a significant threat to urban livability and citizen well-being, necessitating the development of effective adaptation actions within urban environments. This research addresses the need for a structured understanding of the diverse array of available adaptation tools. To achieve this, a comprehensive document analysis was conducted on 386 case studies and research papers related to climate change adaptation across various applications and contexts. The resulting classification framework categorizes adaptation tools into four key areas based on their primary application: Planning & Decision-Making Tools, Data & Modeling Tools, Research Tools, and Implementation & Management Tools. This categorization acknowledges the interconnectedness of tools and their potential for overlap, emphasizing that the strategic combination of tools from different categories can significantly enhance the outcomes and quality of climate change adaptation projects across various project phases. This classification provides a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to navigate the complex landscape of climate change adaptation.
